4-star EDGE Ronelle Johnson commits to Indiana

Blue Springs (Mo.) four-star EDGE Ronelle Johnson has committed to Indiana, he told Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett on Saturday.

He chose the Hoosiers over Kansas State, Missouri and Ole Miss.

Johnson ranks as Rivals’ No. 84 overall prospect. He checks in as the No. 296 recruit and No. 30 EDGE in the 2026 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies.

The 6-foot-4, 245-pounder becomes one of the highest-ranked member of Indiana’s 2026 class, providing head coach Curt Cignetti and the IU staff with a major boost on the trail this summer. The Hoosiers now have the nation’s No. 26 class, per the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.

Johnson took his official visit to Bloomington on the weekend of June 6. He’s the first listed EDGE in Indiana’s class, though he does join a slew of big-time pledges on the defensive line, including Naperville (Ill.) North four-star DL Gabe Hill and Greenwood (Ind.) IMG Academy three-star DL Cameron McHaney.

The No. 3 player in Missouri, Johnson also gives IU its fourth blue-chip commitment this cycle. He joins Hill, Columbus (Ohio) Grandview Heights four-star athlete Henry Ohlinger and Sarasota (Fla.) Booker four-star linebacker Kevontay Hugan at the top of the class.

Rivals National Scout Cody Bellaire previously wrote this of Johnson as a prospect:

“Ronelle Johnson is one of the more physically impressive prospects on the defensive side of the ball in this 2026 cycle and has the numbers off the field to back it up as well. During his sophomore track and field season, Johnson threw over 49 feet in the shot put as well as a 138-foot discus, That raw power shows up on Saturdays where he can be seen bullying offensive linemen at the point of attack. But Johnson has some impressive bend and ability to get after the quarterback as well with advanced hand usage for his age and excellent burst off the line of scrimmage. One of the safest prospects on the defensive side of the ball in 2026.”
