Thanksgiving Day turned into one of the most important days of Kristan Moores life. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound linebacker out of Selma (Ala.) received a call that changed everything. On the other end of the line was Oklahoma linebackers coach Nate Dreiling, who delivered the offer Moore had been praying for.

By the weekend, Moore was in Norman for his official visit, and after watching the Sooners take down LSU inside a rocking stadium, he knew exactly where he belonged. He has committed to Brent Venables and the Oklahoma Sooners.

This trip to Norman was Moore’s third time on campus, following a summer camp invite and a return for the Michigan game. Each visit strengthened his connection to the program, but this weekend sealed it.

“The vibes are genuine, it’s a real family atmosphere here and it’s felt around the entire organization,” Moore told Rivals. “Inside the Palace, it’s electric. The fan base here is crazy. I’ve been feeling the love from the fans on Twitter, Instagram, and in person.

Seeing the Sooners knock off LSU in front of a sold-out crowd made the decision even easier.

“The atmosphere here at OU is amazing. I’m definitely sold.”

A dream fit in Venables’ defense

Moore has played EDGE most of his high school career, but Oklahoma’s staff saw something more: the instincts and range of an inside linebacker. Moore embraced the challenge, switched positions as a senior, and has only grown more convinced he belongs in Venables’ system.

“It should be every high school linebacker’s dream to come be a part of Coach V’s defense,” Moore said. “Coach Venables, Coach Dreiling—those guys are defensive masterminds.”

The game-day experience hit him hard. The Walk of Champions. The energy. The linebackers he studies—Kip Lewis and Kobe McKenzie—leading the charge right in front of him.

“Seeing that, knowing that’ll be me next season, gave me goosebumps,” he said. “I was ready to run through a brick wall with them.”

SOUL Mission made Oklahoma feel like home

Growing up in Selma, Moore learned the value of community, faith, and giving back. Oklahoma’s SOUL Mission resonated deeply.

“Selma was rough but also a blessing,” Moore said. “We don’t have a lot of resources, but we have community. OU has a program that aligns with those values, and that made me feel at home.”

Jim Nagy made him comfortable too. Moore speaks with uncommon admiration for Nagy, whose belief in him never wavered.

“I’m big on loyalty and genuine connections, and Mr. Nagy has given me that since day one.”

At Oklahoma’s summer camp, Nagy asked him to work with the inside linebackers. Moore delivered—going 10-for-10 in coverage reps—and earned an immediate invite to meet Venables.

Nagy kept the communication constant through the fall, evaluating his move to inside linebacker and assuring him that Oklahoma’s interest was real.

Moore remembers being told by outsiders that he would never land a P4 offer as a senior, especially after switching positions late. He didn’t listen.

“Despite the negativity from naysayers, Mr. Nagy and Coach Dreiling kept reminding me that OU was coming. And they stayed true to those words.”

The final sign came last month when Moore’s twin sister, Kristi, got accepted into Oklahoma with multiple academic scholarships.

“When she told me, I knew God had me,” Moore said. “The doubt left. I knew that call was coming.”

It did, on their birthday.

Now, Moore is officially a Sooner.

“I’ll be throwing the horns down and forever screaming Boomer.”
