4-star PF Trey Thompson commits to Iowa, will play for the Hawkeyes this season

Four-star power forward Trey Thompson has committed to Iowa and will reclassify to 2025, he told Rivals. The 6-foot-8 prospect will forgo his senior year of high school at Greeneville (TN) and join the Hawkeyes for the upcoming season.
Thompson chose to play for new coach Ben McCollum over offers from schools like Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Clemson, Purdue, UConn, Kansas, and several others.
He is ranked as the No. 81 overall recruit in the 2026 class, according to the On3 Industry Ranking. He’s also the No. 12 power forward and the No. 3 player in Tennessee. His ranking will now be re-evaluated with his move into 2025.

Trey Thompson discussed his decision to choose the Hawkeyes.
“I chose Iowa because there was a need for me now. I wanted a significant role and I wanted to get better this year. They gave me both of those, so I decided to say yes.”

What led to his decision to reclassify to 2025 and join Iowa for the upcoming season?
“I wanted to reclass up to get better this year. I want to be the best basketball player I can possibly be and going to coach McCollum and doing this now is the best way for that.”
