Aggies to host Miami in CFP first round
For the first time in program history, Texas A&M is in the College Football Playoff. The Aggies (11-1) are in as the seventh seed and will host the Miami Hurricanes (10-2) on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 11 a.m. central time.
Texas A&M is one of five SEC teams in the CFP, joining Georgia (3rd), Ole Miss (6th), Oklahoma (8th) and Alabama (9th).
If the Aggies beat Miami, they will head to Arlington to play Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl New Year’s Eve.
Basketball wastes huge rally, falls in overtime
The Texas A&M basketball team ended its road tour through ACC country with a 2-1 record after falling 93-80 to SMU in Fort Worth Sunday.
After shooting poorly for the entire game, the Aggies suddenly exploded for a 20-4 run that had them up 4 points going into the game’s final minute. Texas A&M then promptly turned the ball over twice in the backcourt, allowing SMU to tie the game at 77 and force the game into overtime.
The Aggies (7-3) then reverted to their previous struggles, scoring just 3 points in the final five minutes as SMU pulled away. A&M shot well below average in all phases of the game, making only 35% of its attempts from the floor, 24% from 3-point range and 65% at the foul line.
Guard Marcus Hill led the Aggies with 25 points, while Mackenzie Mgbako and Rashaun Agee added 13 each.
Volleyball heads to the Sweet 16
The Texas A&M volleyball team continues one of the best seasons in program history after a pair of wins over the weekend to advance to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Volleyball Tournament.
The Aggies (25-4) are a three seed in the tournament and hosted first and second round matches at Reed Arena. After dismissing Campbell in three sets Friday (25-20, 25-10, 25-13), Texas A&M faced a familiar foe: TCU, which beat the Aggies in Fort Worth earlier in the season.
It looked like the rematch would be a thriller, as the Aggies took two of the first three sets but the Horned Frogs took a 24-21 lead and had a chance to serve for the set to tie the match up. A&M rallied to tie the match at 24, with a two-point advantage needed to win the set. Eventually, the Aggies took a 28-27 lead and finished off TCU with a service ace from senior Ifenna Cos-Okpalla to take the set 29-27 and the match 3 sets to 1 (23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 29-27).
Texas A&M will face second-seeded Louisville Friday night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska in Lincoln.
