He also thanked President Jayathi Murthy, whom he calls a competitor. He wants to build the football program to parallel the University’s success arm and arm with Murthy. He also said he’s ready to lock arms with Scott Barnes, talks about how much it means to have Barnes’ belief in him. They want to be on the same page, and Shephard said the alignment between President, AD, & coach is part of why we wanted to come here.

12/02/2025 02:06:30 PMOregon State Athletic Director Scott Barnes talks about how Shephard checked all of the boxes, regarding NIL, rev share, West Coast ties, and more… Barnes said he called all across the country to talk about Shephard, and the responses were how good a person he is. Barnes is reading a letter from Shephard’s middle school teacher, someone who spoke with Barnes and said how good of a person Shephard is.
