After falling behind early in a loss to Nebraska this past weekend, UCLA will be looking for a quicker start Saturday on the road at top-ranked Ohio State.

The Bruins trailed 28-7 before a late comeback attempt was stopped short. The Cornhuskers scored touchdowns on their first four drives.

“We want to make sure we put a big-time emphasis on starting fast, that’s going to be the big thing,” UCLA interim head coach Tim Skipper said Monday in his weekly Zoom conference call. “But we have to take care of us, we can’t worry about who we’re playing and things like that. Control the controllables and we can control what we do, so that’s going to be our focus.”

Injury update

The Bruins played most of the contest without right guard Garrett DiGiorgio.

He left the game with a back injury in the first quarter and did not return. Julian Armella, who opened the season as the starting right guard before DiGiorgio moved over from right tackle, finished out the game.

Skipper said DiGiorgio was in better condition Sunday, but his availability for practice Tuesday is up in the air.

“Garrett spasmed up to where he was, like, struggling to walk at the game,” Skipper said. “I saw him yesterday, he was walking a lot better. So today’s a heavy treatment day, as you know, and we’ll see where it goes and progresses tomorrow. But we’re going to let him do all the stuff he needs to do today, and hopefully we can get him out there tomorrow, but we’ll see tomorrow how he’s feeling and doing.”
