Back in August when she committed, I wrote about Wheeler:

“Wheeler has the ability to play both on and off the ball. She handles the ball well and has a nice array of moves, allowing her to attack the basket and finish inside. She also has a smooth outside jump shot and knows how to knock it down from 3-point range. Away from the ball, she is alert and always looks to make the right basketball play. She can facilitate and create for her teammates. Defensively, she uses her length and quickness well, playing with a high IQ on that end.”

Wheeler is now listed at 6’0”, so she’s grown a couple of inches after previously being listed at 5’10”. Those extra inches should certainly help her as she projects to be someone who can play both at the point and off the ball at shooting guard.

As far as what Stanford head coach Kate Paye thinks, Paye said of Wheeler in the team release:

“Jordyn is a fantastic young woman who is a great fit for this program and knew instantly that Stanford was the right place for her. An athletic wing and aggressive defender, she is a high-energy and high-impact player who doesn’t just attack the basket, but finishes. Jordyn values what we value here at Stanford, and we are thrilled to have her join us next season.”

Going off those comments, it sounds like Wheeler is more slotted to play off the ball as a wing/shooting guard, which makes sense given the presence of Hailee Swain, who is doing a fantastic job at point guard as a true freshman.

Something that is a major focus of this Stanford program is their sisterhood and overall community. That seems to have a played a major role in Wheeler’s decision.

“I chose Stanford because from the moment I set foot on campus, I felt an immediate sense of belonging and community,” Wheeler said in the team release. “The environment felt like the perfect fit, as I wanted to be at a school that challenges me both academically and athletically; a balance that Stanford embodies like no other. I can’t wait to be a part of the Sisterhood, and I look forward to continuing to learn and grow both on and off the court!”

Wheeler was the first commit for the Cardinal in their 2026 class. They also signed combo guard Elyse Ngenda. More to come on her in a following article.
