On Thursday, Louisville men’s basketball and head coach Pat Kelsey officially announced the addition of Mouhamed Camara to the 2025-26 roster. Camara committed to play for Louisville on May 19.

Camara is the third international player to join this upcoming season’s roster, also coming to the states is German forward Sananda Fru and Evangelos Zougris, the 6-foot-8 big man from Greece. Camara said that he committed to the Cardinals because of Kelsey’s winning mentality, despite having visited UCF in March.

“Mo is a big-time athlete who has the ability to be an elite defender early in his career,” said Kelsey in a statement published by the university. “He can guard every position on the floor and disrupts both on the ball and at the rim. He has great tools and a mindset that craves coaching, which will allow him to develop quickly. He will be playing on an experienced, veteran team, which will allow him to learn and grow daily. We are very excited to have him here at Louisville.”

Hailing from Senegal, Camara helped lead his team reach this summer’s FIBA AfroBasket tournament after storming through qualifiers. In the NBA Academy Africa this past winter, Camara showed his defensive potential. Through his opportunistic and risk-taking defense, he tallied multiple games of three or more blocks and steals.

At 6-foot-8, 215 pounds, Camara is as versatile as it comes on the wing. He has great instincts as a defender, can be explosive in the open floor, and uses his size well around and on the glass. Still, Camara has room to grow and improve as a playmaker, ball handler and shooter.

Louisville fans should be familiar with another Senegalese big man that made an impact in The Ville, 2013 national champion Gorgui Dieng, who shares a similar background with Camara.

Camara will be the seventh addition to the Cardinals’ roster, along with freshmen Mikel Brown Jr. and transfers Isaac McKneely, Ryan Conwell and Adrian Wooley.

Louisville is getting another high-energy and uber-athletic big to put in its frontcourt rotation.
