The task for UVa in the ACC/SEC Challenge this year was to go to Austin for its first true road game against one of the most sport’s best-resourced athletic departments.

After an 88-69 throttling of the Horns, it’s safe to say: Mission accomplished.

The Wahoos shot 50% from 3-point range, getting 16 points from Chance Mallory and 15 from Johann Grunloh, two of five Wahoos to score in double-figures in the victory on Wednesday night.

In addition to Mallory and Grunloh, Virginia (7-1) also got 13 points from Thijs De Ridder, 11 from Malik Thomas, and 10 from Jacari White.

The Cavaliers led 46-27 at the break behind 12 points from Grunloh and all 10 from White, who made three 3s in a key 12-0 run that pushed UVa to a solid lead midway through. The Wahoos, who scored 1.533 points per possession in the first 20 minutes, came out after halftime and made it look easy. They led by as many as 28 on the way to the victory, getting 38 points off their bench and racking up 18 assists on 28 made field goals.

The Hoos led for nearly than 36 and a half minutes of the game.

The Longhorns (6-3) were led by Daylin Swain, who had 15 points in the loss. Jordan Pope was the only other Texas player in double-figures with 10.

The Cavaliers return to action on Saturday in Charlotte against Dayton.
