Keys to a season-ending win vs. Syracuse
11 down, 1 to go.
A memorable 2025 (for all the wrong reasons) finally comes to a close on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. when the Eagles take on the 3-8 Orange on the road.
Coming off the worst-placed bye week in the history of football, BC has one more chance to truly avoid being in the conversation with the 1978 team as the worst ever in program history. By going 2-10, there may be a chance to build a little bit of momentum heading into what is now arguably the most important offseason in BC football history.
Luckily, Syracuse just got embarrassed by Notre Dame, giving up 70 points. It’ll be interesting to see if there’s a real home field advantage in The Dome tomorrow, or if most of the students aren’t coming back until Sunday. If they choose to all get hammered together again after the Thanksgiving break, then the Eagles will have noise to deal with.
Here’s a few quick keys to a potential win for the Eagles:
If Lonergan has protection, the offense should put up at least 30
No excuses. Yes, Notre Dame is obviously one of the best teams in the country, but as long as the O-line holds up, both QBs have showed they can put up points this season. In fact, BC put up 537 yards of offense its last time out against Georgia Tech.
Lewis Bond will certainly want to add to his now historic career at BC with one more big game, while Reed Harris can also either build some momentum heading into his offseason, or put a ton of goof stuff on tape for a trip to the portal, where his size and speed combination will absolutely be sought after.
It’d also be nice to see at least one more good running game for the backs. All of this depends on the O-line though, which has been inconsistent all year.
Don’t be surprised if Kaelan Chudzinski has a big day too. I think they genuinely have something special at the position with him.
Defense holds the Cuse offense to under 400 yards
Low bar? Yes. But, after giving up 628 two weeks ago to Georgia Tech, you simply can’t let that happen against a mediocre QB and a ‘meh’ Orange offense.
KP Price adamantly said that this is going to be a physical game from their end, especially trying to send the seniors out with a win. I also asked him about DC Tim Lewis last week and he lit up before giving a glowing response.
It feels like if Bill O’Brien and staff changes are made, Lewis could be one of the first to go. (Great guy too, pains me to write that, but it’s the nature of the results-based business). If they want to play for him, then they most definitely can’t get torched by the Syracuse receivers or backs in open space.
Can Luca stay perfect?
Luca Lombardo is the unquestioned MVP this season. Lombardo enters this final game at a perfect 14-14 on field goals and 31-31 on extra points? Can the junior finish the season that way?
Also, since I’ve only got one chance left to be right, THIS is the game he kicks a game winner…
Prediction
BC 38, Syracuse 35
