Notre Dame star guard Markus Burton to undergo surgery
Notre Dame junior point guard Markus Burton will have surgery tomorrow on his left ankle, the school announced on Tuesday.

The guard was averaging 18.5 points, 3.7 assists and 1.6 steals this season, all which lead Notre Dame. The team said there is no timetable for his return, but Burton could miss longer than eight weeks, per report.
Burton has averaged above 17.5 points per game since he stepped on the floor at Notre Dame as a freshman in 2023-24. It’s a huge loss for the Irish (7-3), especially since they had some momentum in year three under Micah Shrewsberry coming off back-to-back wins against Missouri and TCU.
Eight weeks would put Burton’s return around the Louisville road game on Wednesday, Feb. 4. Notre Dame has eight games left in the regular season after that trip to Louisville.
