How to Watch, BetSaracen odds: No. 21 Arkansas vs. Samford
The No. 21 Arkansas Razorbacks (2-1, 0-0 SEC) are looking to build off a win earlier this week and will host a tough Samford Bulldogs (2-1, 0-0 SoCon) team at Bud Walton Arena on Friday evening.
Arkansas had some hiccups against Central Arkansas on Tuesday and led by just nine points at halftime, but cruised in the second half to secure a 93-56 win. Darius Acuff Jr. led all scorers with 21 while Karter Knox logged the first collegiate double-double of his career with 19 points and 10 rebounds.
Samford comes into Friday’s contest with a 2-1 record with wins over Texas Southern and South Carolina State, and a road loss to Tulane that opened its season.
The Bulldogs are led by first-year head coach Lennie Acuff (no relation to Darius), who was actually in Bud Walton last season as he led his Lipscomb team against the Hogs, and he coached against Arkansas the season before that in North Little Rock.
Acuff took the job at Samford after six years at Lipscomb, where he compiled a 101-82 overall record. He’s been coaching since 1990, and spent time at the NAIA and NCAA Division II levels. For his career he owns a 678-419 record.
It’s unclear if Arkansas forward Trevon Brazile will suit up for Friday’s game. He missed Tuesday’s game against UCA because of back spasms. That meant more minutes with both Malique Ewin and Nick Pringle on the floor together, something head coach John Calipari said he’d like to see more of.
“I need to do some stuff with the two bigs in, because I like that group,” Calipari said Tuesday night. “I think they’re bought in. Both of them. Got to get Malique to play harder. Got to get Nick to recognize the spacing that he’s got to have, where he’s got to be standing. We got to have three or four things we do with those two in there together.”
