Recruiting Blitz: Nebraska still hunting for talent with Signing Day closing in
Signing Day is less than than a month away and Nebraska has plenty of work to do in the remaining 3.5 weeks to address needs in the 2026 cycle. Inside Nebraska’s Tim Verghese shares the latest on Nebraska’s efforts to add a third 2026 WR, address depth in the front seven and what’s next for safety recruiting after missing out on Tedarius Hughes
What’s left on Nebraska’s 2026 recruiting board?
Nebraska had been seen as the biggest threat to flip 2026 four-star safety Tedarius Hughesfrom Florida State through much of the fall. Instead, Syracuse, the dark horse program in that recruitment, pulled off the flip Tuesday after getting the 6-foot-3, 180lb safety back on campus this past weekend. That’s a big blow for the Huskers, who had Hughes on campus just last weekend for the win over Northwestern.
add a big, playmaking safety this cycle. With Hughes off to Syracuse, where does Nebraska turn at this point?
It’s largely other Big Ten commits. The Huskers have kept tabs on Illinois four-star safety commit Jacob Eberhart out of Kirkwood (Mo.) this fall and he’s one recruitment that could get really interesting late in the cycle. Oklahoma was shocked to miss out on him the first time around, in-state Missouri would love another shot, as would Nebraska. Can the Huskers get him on campus again? That’s the big question.
Nebraska holds zero defensive line commits and just one linebacker commit in the 2026 cycle to date. That will need to change in the next few weeks.
The odds Nebraska flips Syracuse four-star EDGE Kamron Wilson are extremely slim at this point, but the door isn’t all the way shut just yet. The Huskers had Charlotte (N.C) Myers Park three-star EDGE Damaad Lewis on campus for an official visit Oct. 25-26, he spent this past weekend at Florida State and aims to make a decision after his senior season. Can the Huskers edge out the Seminoles? Time will tell, sources are conflicted on who holds the advantage in this recruitment. Florida State did recently pick up two new EDGE commits, but Lewis is expected to remain a target for the Seminoles. NC State is a dark horse to monitor.
