Michigan Hockey: A week in review (Nov.3 - Nov. 9)

After a red-hot October, it appeared that November might be off to a slower start for the Michigan hockey program. While time will tell, it was a defense-optional weekend against No. 10 Wisconsin, as the Wolverines split the weekend series with the Badgers.

Let’s take a look at how the Wolverines fared this weekend:

November 7

Highlights:

Who: Wisconsin

Where: Ann Arbor, MI

Result: Michigan wins 7-4

Goals: Hage, Michael (2); Schifsky, Garrett (1); Spence, Malcolm (1); Eernisse, Josh (1); Horcoff, Will (1); Hughes, T.J. (1)

Goalie: Jack Ivankovic

Of Note: After holding a 3-2 lead heading into the third period, the Wolverines would surrender two quick goals to the Badgers for the lead with 9 minutes left in the game. The Wolverines would answer with four-straight goals, including two empty-netters, to regain the lead and earn the win.

November 8

Highlights:

Who: Wisconsin

Where: Ann Arbor, MI

Result: Michigan loses 6-1

Goals: Fantilli, Luca (1)

Goalie: Jack Ivankovic

Of Note: It was a tale of the penalty kill during Saturday’s contest, with the Badgers scoring three power play goals, two in the first period alone, as Jack Ivankovic was busy in front of the net all game long. Despite having 24 saves, he would surrender 6 goals in the contest for his second loss of the season.

Michigan is back on the road, headed to State College to take on Penn State for a weekend series against the Nittany Lions. Friday, Nov. 14th’s puck drop is scheduled for 7 p.m. EST, and Saturday, Nov. 15th’s game is scheduled for 8 p.m. EST. Both games will air on BIG+.
