Sherrone Moore says rivalry hero Rod Moore 'most likely' out for the season

One of the biggest highlights in recent memory of the Michigan-Ohio State rivalry came in the form of a game-sealing interception by Rod Moore during the 2023 season, which will be played on highlight reels for years to come during a national championship season.

While many hoped that Moore’s return to the field this season meant he’d have another chance to beat the Buckeyes, the outlook for this weekend’s clash looks bleak, according to head coach Sherrone Moore.

When asked about the status of the two-time captain, Moore gave an answer that did not sound optimistic.

“Rod will be out, yeah,” Moore told reporters on Monday.

Playing in only three games this season, Moore’s extended absence after returning from two knee procedures from an injury suffered last spring, the door open for a potential medical redshirt season, which could allow Moore to play against the Buckeyes as well as participate in any postseason play while keeping the option to return next season open.

While no one at U-M has verified talk of a redshirt for Moore, the U-M headman drew a hard line regarding whether the safety would be available at all the rest of the season.

“Yeah, most likely (Moore is out for the season), yes,” Moore said.
