Friday Report: Sooners update R Mason Thomas’ status for Alabama game

R Mason Thomas’ status for Saturday is trending in the wrong direction, according to Friday’s SEC Availability Report.

Oklahoma’s star defensive end is now listed as doubtful to play at Alabama (2:30 p.m. Saturday, ABC). Thomas was previously listed as questionable on the Wednesday and Thursday reports.

Thomas, who has nine tackles for loss and six sacks in eight starts, left the Tennessee game with a groin injury. It now appears that he’ll be out for a pivotal game against the Crimson Tide.

According to the SEC Availability Report, players listed as questionable as “uncertain to play due to injury or condition.” Players listed as doubtful are “unlikely to play due to significant concerns.” Players who are probable are “likely to play, barring any setbacks.”

Thomas’ status is the biggest change on the availability report.

Cornerback Gentry Williams remains doubtful to play. Defensive tackle Jayden Jackson remains questionable, indicating that he will likely be a true game-time decision.

If the Sooners are without Thomas and Jackson, the defensive depth will be tested. Expect additional reps for Danny Okoye and Adelphi Adebawore on the ends, while the Sooners will likely lean even more on David Stone and Gracen Halton on the interior.

Running backs Jovantae Barnes and Taylor Tatum have been ruled out. The Sooners will continue to rely on Xavier Robinson and Tory Blaylock.

Kendel Dolby, was not on the previous availability reports, has been ruled out for the fourth consecutive game.

The good news for the Sooners? Wide receiver Keontez Lewis and linebacker Kobie McKinzie were removed from the report.

The final availability report will be released at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
