Sooners announce search committee for next athletic director

Oklahoma has announced details on the search committee for the next athletic director, and it includes several heavy hitters.

The search committee will comprise of 12 members and will be led by Randall Stephenson, the Chair of Football. The committee also includes former OU football coach Bob Stoops, 2008 Heisman Trophy winner Sam Bradford, former OU women’s basketball coach Sherri Coale and former OU softball player Kinzie Hansen.

The committee will look to replace longtime OU athletics director Joe Castiglione, who announced his future retirement on June 8. Castiglione — who will serve in an advisory role to the committee — will transition to an emeritus role once the new athletic director is on campus. He will help primarily with fundraising until his official retirement in June 2028.

Here are all 12 members of the search committee, per OU:

  • Randall L. Stephenson, Chair of Football and Special Advisor to the President and the Director of Athletics (Chair)
  • Hollye Hunt, Vice President of Executive Affairs and Chief of Staff
  • Armand Paliotta, Vice President and General Counsel
  • David Surratt, Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
  • Bob Stoops, Executive Director, Special Advisor to the Athletics Director
  • Amy Noah, Vice President and Chief Advancement Officer, OU Foundation (Designee from outside the University)
  • Steve Gensler, Gene and Elaine Edwards Family Chair in Law, President’s Associates Presidential Professor (Faculty Representative)
  • Kasie Crall, Associate Registrar (Staff Representative)
  • Kinzie Hansen (Student Representative)
  • Sam Bradford, Former University of Oklahoma Quarterback (Designee from outside the University)
  • Sherri Coale, Former University of Oklahoma Head Women’s Basketball Coach (Designee from outside the University)
  • Dorothy Anderson, Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer (Ex Officio Member)

Castiglione has served as athletics director since 1998. The 2025-26 academic year will mark his 28th year in the role.
