Sooners remain at No. 8 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings
Oklahoma remains in a good position to make the College Football Playoff.
The Sooners stayed put in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, remaining at No. 8. The CFP Committee kept the Sooners at eight following their 17-6 win against Missouri over the weekend.
The rankings remain largely the same from last week, particularly at the top. The Sooners (9-2, 5-2 SEC) remain behind No. 7 Ole Miss, who was jumped by Oregon after the Ducks beat USC. They remain ahead of No. 9 Notre Dame, who beat Syracuse 70-7.
The Sooners’ No. 8 ranking keeps them in a win-and-in scenario for the playoff heading into the final weekend of the regular season.
The Sooners would host No. 9 Notre Dame for a first-round playoff game on the weekend of Dec. 19-20 if the playoff began today. However, there remain scenarios where the Sooners are left out of the top eight and have to travel for the first round.
Notre Dame and Alabama remain the teams to watch in that regard, particularly if the Crimson Tide win the SEC Championship. The Crimson Tide will play in the conference title game if they beat Auburn this weekend.
But all that matters for the Sooners is taking care of business. They host LSU at 2:30 p.m. Saturday (ABC) to conclude the regular season.
