Rutgers Baseball adds Virginia Transfer Catcher Trey Wells

Rutgers Baseball has added another high major addition recently via the Transfer Portal, as former University of Virginia catcher Trey Wells has announced his commitment to the Scarlet Knights via social media.
The 6-foot-5, 225-pounds catcher hails from Omaha, Nebraska and played at Elkhorn North High School before enrolling at Wayne State University ahead of the 2023 season and transferred over to Virginia prior to the 2025 season.

The Nebraska native played two seasons at Wayne State and put up some strong numbers with the Wildcats. In his two seasons with Wayne State, Wells appeared in 94 games and slashed .289/.358/.520 to go along with 96 hits, 16 doubles, 66 runs scored, 17 home runs and 77 RBIs.
After two seasons, Wells made the decision to enter the Transfer Portal and quickly found his new home, heading across the country to join one of the ACC’s best in the University of Virginia. In his lone season with the Cavaliers, Wells appeared in 19 games (16 starts) and slashed .263/.324/.439, along with 15 hits, three doubles, 12 runs scores, one home run and 17 RBIs.
