Clemson moves to 3-0 with 83-56 win over Morehead State

CLEMSON — Brad Brownell’s 1-2 lineup punch has been enough to knock out Clemson’s first three opponents.

Now the Tigers move up to the heavyweight division against Georgetown on Saturday.
This almost all-new team is known for its competitive depth, as Brownell has taken to subbing out his starting five for the next five and then going from there.
On Tuesday night Clemson jumped all over Morehead State early about like it did its previous two foes in a 83-56 victory at Littlejohn Coliseum.

Some troubles on the glass kept things somewhat interesting in the second half, but the Eagles (1-3) never got closer than 15 points as Clemson stretched its lead to 30 late.
Still, Morehead State was clearly a step up from Gardner-Webb and New Hampshire.
Now the Tigers prepare to take a much bigger step up in competition.
Clemson visits Georgetown on Saturday at noon. The Hoyas are 2-0 with a 70-60 win at Maryland last week, and in a late-October exhibition they went to Rupp Arena and slapped Kentucky with an 84-70 defeat.
Ed Cooley’s team plays host to Binghamton on Wednesday.
Jake Wahlin led the Tigers with 14 points and was 4-of-6 from 3. RJ Godfrey had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds with three assists in 27 minutes, and Ace Buckner had 12 points and five rebounds.
Morehead State out-rebounded Clemson 41-40, and the Eagles turned 19 offensive rebounds into 19 second-chance points.
Clemson held Morehead State to 34-percent shooting, though, and the Tigers shot 47 percent from the field while going 11-for-30 from long range.
The Eagles missed 19 of 25 shots from 3.
Clemson led by as many as 21 in the first half while hitting six 3-pointers on 18 attempts.
Morehead State missed 13 of 16 shots from 3 before intermission and shot 23 percent from the field while totaling seven turnovers.
Wahlin led the Tigers in scoring in the first half with eight points and hit two 3-pointers on four attempts. Godfrey added seven in the first half with nine rebounds.

Clemson set a school record in the first two games with just nine turnovers combined, and the Tigers had just one turnover in the first half to make it 10 turnovers over the season’s first 100 minutes of basketball.

Clemson had five turnovers for the game to 19 assists. Dillon Hunter had four of those assists and finished with five points on 2-of-7 shooting.
