UConn Football defeats Duke for seventh straight home victory

by: Jarrett Guerrera11/08/25JarrettGuerrera

The UConn football team continues to add to what has been a successful season up to this point. The Duke Blue Devils entered Connecticut just a week after the Huskies managed to secure bowl eligibility. A win over an ACC program now adds more credibility to the 7-3 record of the Huskies.

Quarterback Joe Fagnano had a solid three touchdown, 311-yard performance against the Blue Devils’ defense. Fagnano went 27-for-39 passing and faced heavy pressure early, including two sacks in the first-quarter. However, the quarterback bounced back in the second-half with three scoring drives in a row that pulled the Huskies ahead.

UConn Huskies’ Defense Holds Onto Crucial Win

With only a handful of games left, every game means even more for UConn with the clash against the Blue Devils being a particularly valuable one. The Huskies are now 2-1 this season against power conference opponents after defeating Duke with a loss to Syracuse and a win over Boston College.

The Huskies’ defense made every effort to make the game as gritty as possible. Giving up the “big play” according to Coach Jim Mora had been the biggest thing holding the defense back previously. However, Duke averaged just 5.9 yards per pass while gaining an average of six yards per play.

Linebacker Bryun Parham recorded a crucial strip sack late in the fourth-quarter that effectively ended the game. Parham also added an interception on defense against the Blue Devils as the linebacker has been the most productive defender for UConn this season.

Huskies, Skyler Bell Extend Impressive Streaks

For the UConn football team, a win over Duke not only adds to the resume but also extends the home win streak to seven games dating back to last season.

The Huskies have defeated Rice, Georgia State, Central Connecticut, Ball State, Florida International, UAB, and Duke to comprise the streak.

In addition to the team extending a streak, Skyler Bell has now scored in seven straight games for the Huskies. The former Wisconsin Badgers’ wide receiver has been the favorite target of Fagnano and the main scoring option for the offense. Bell was unable to score against Delaware and Syracuse, which are the only two games the receiver did not score in.

The receiver now has a total of 13 receiving touchdowns on the year for the Huskies. Bell currently leads the FBS with a three touchdown lead over Cincinnati receiver Cyrus Allen. The Huskies still have two games left this season and Bell holds a five touchdown lead over former UConn receiver and current staffer Kashif Moore.

UConn will again have to defend home turf and put the winning streak on the line next week against Air Force. The Falcons are 2-6 this season with shootout losses to Army, Navy, and UNLV.
