VHSL Football Top Tens - Entering 2025 Playoffs

The regular season is in the books and there was plenty of drama to conclude action on the first Friday of November 2025. Knocked from the ranks of the unbeaten were the Magna Vista Warriors, who dropped a double-overtime classic to GW-Danville’s Eagles, 50-49. It marked the first home win in the series since 2017 and leaves everyone at the Class 3 level with a loss. Ditto in Class 6 with Huguenot knocking off Manchester, 27-7.

But that GW/Magna Vista game wasn’t the only down-to-the-wire classic. In the Seminole District, Heritage-Lynchburg held off Jefferson Forest, 20-14, to secure a No. 1 seed in Region 3C. A 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown with 1:27 to go by Malik Bullock propelled Highland Springs past Hanover, 30-27. The Hawks open up Region 4B as a No. 8 seed at Dinwiddie, one of the remaining 11 undefeated teams in Virginia. Also unbeaten and in Region 4B is Louisa.

Another thriller came in the Dogwood District, where Altavista rallied from 14 points down late in the fourth quarter to stun Gretna, 49-48. That is despite Gretna QB Rayshaun Logan channeling his inner Vic Hall (look that one up all you youngsters out there), producing insane numbers by throwing for 515 yards and 5 TD’s to go with 41 yards rushing and a score in a loss.

Now the postseason quest begins with Oscar Smith trying to go back-to-back in Class 6; Maury looking for a three-peat in Class 5; Phoebus attempting a fifth straight state title in Class 4; Liberty Christian going for the trifecta in Class 3; Graham aiming for a second consecutive crown in Class; and Essex trying to capture hardware at the Class 1 level for the second year in a row. Interestingly enough, Essex is the lone squad of those defending State Champs without a blemish to date here in 2025.

Below you can see a full expanded chart of the complete Top Tens for all six classifications as we head into the postseason. Remember, the hyperlinks on the team names take you to our in-depth previews from the start of the campaign.
