No. 11 Oregon and No. 8 Florida State came into Friday night’s Top-15 anticipated matchup, evenly matched statistically. But at the end of the night, the Ducks came out victorious in a small-margin 2-0 victory in the opening game of the Jane Sanders Classic in Eugene, Oregon.

They did so with junior right-hander Lyndsey Grein dealing an impressive performance in the circle. She earned back-to-back complete game shutouts after her last start against San Diego on March 1st. Grein has a total of 16 strikeouts from her last two outings.

Grein threw an exact total of 100 pitches and retired nine batters in a row to end the game. She held Florida State to a one hit, which was a single that belonged to Kennedy Harp in the top of the first inning. After that, the Seminoles’ bats were unable to muster anything against Grein for the rest of the game. Florida State only had two baserunners the last six innings via an error and a walk.

Sophomore catcher Braiesey Rosa was the difference maker. The backup catcher filling in for Emma Cox hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the second inning. Rosa’s first career home run put the Ducks on top and kept them there the remainder of the night.

Though Florida State’s offense was hushed, it kept the Ducks in check. Oregon, which has a team batting average of 0.347, only had six hits. Senior outfielder Kedre Luschar, who continued her 9-game hitting streak with a double to center field.

Florida State looks for the split between the two teams on Sunday when the two teams are slated to play again at 2:30 p.m.

The Jane Sanders Classic continues tomorrow at 3:30 with an in-state rivalry between Oregon and Oregon State.
