No. 20 Nebraska and Ohio State were engaged in an absolute slugfest. However, the Buckeyes found a way after Hadley Parisien‘s go-ahead single in the bottom of the sixth vaulted Ohio State to a 13-12 win.

The third inning is when the fireworks started. After Ohio State struck first with a pair of runs, Jordy Bahl tied the game with a two-run blast off Lorin Boutte for the second straight day. Hannah Camenzind came through with an RBI double and scored after an errant throw. Camenzind launched a long ball to herself and Nebraska added another run to cap the six-run frame.

Unlike Friday’s contest, Ohio State answered right back. The Buckeyes started to rally and Bahl entered the circle for Camenzind. Taylor Cruse, who homered earlier in the game, delivered a bases-clearing double to tie it at six. Sami Bewick hit a go-ahead two-run homer. Reagan Milliken, who opened the third inning with a solo home run, hit a three-run homer to extend the Buckeyes’ lead to 11-6.

But no lead was safe in this contest. Emmerson Cope cut the lead down to three runs with a two-run homer. The Cornhuskers took advantage of an error and a wild pitch, pulling within one in the fifth. That also brought Cope back to the plate. She blasted another one. This time, the two-run homer gave Nebraska the lead.

Cope now had to hold onto the lead in the circle. She allowed the first two batters of the sixth to reach. A Cruse – her fifth RBI of the game – sacrifice fly brought in a game-tying run. Then Parisien came through with the two-out RBI single.

Layna Gerhard deserves her flowers. Despite only throwing two innings in March, she gave Ohio State 3.2 innings, allowing one earned run and she struck out Cope to end the game.

The two teams split the conference games as Sunday’s rubber match at 1 p.m. ET is a non-conference game.
