UCLA freshman shortstop Aleena Garcia has been ruled out for the season with an undisclosed injury, per a UCLA spokesperson. She is expected to redshirt this season and return to the field in 2026.

Garcia, the 34th overall ranked recruit in the 2024 Softball America class, has not registered an at-bat since February 22nd against Arkansas. She was used as a pinch runner twice following the contest against the Razorbacks.

Garcia got out to a great start to her career, especially as a defender. She was hitting .333 with two doubles, a triple, two home runs and nine RBIs before the injury.

The Bruins have depth among the infield but haven’t found a true solution at shortstop the past week. Kaniya Bragg, Seneca Curo and Savannah Pola have all played the position since Garcia’s injury.
