The Alabama Crimson Tide holds commitments from four defensive backs, including a trio of five-star prospects: Caleb Downs, Jahlil Hurley, and Tony Mitchell. With an elite secondary already being put together, Bama is looking to add even more talent to the fold.

Cornerbacks coach Travaris Robinson remains in hot pursuit of Texas Longhorns pledge Malik Muhammad. Per the 2023 On3 Consensus, Muhammad is the second-ranked cornerback and the No. 37 overall player in the country.

On Thursday, BamaInsider confirmed that Muhammad had scheduled his official visit to Alabama. The Dallas (Tx.) South Oak Cliff product will be in town for the weekend of their game versus Mississippi State (Oct. 22-23).

Muhammad, who committed to Texas on July 20, has not been shy about entertaining other schools. He said that he told Robinson and Company the “pressure is on [Alabama]” to flip him, while noting that he also told the Longhorns staff that they’ve got to keep him.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pounder dove into his interest in the Crimson Tide in an interview earlier this month.

“At the end of the day, it’s Alabama,” Muhammad previously said to BamaInsider. “If you step on the field there, you most likely — like 99.9 percent — are going to get drafted. If you play well at Alabama, you will get drafted in the first round. There’s no question about it. They keep DBs drafted every year. That’s probably the main reason [I’m interested].

“They keep d-linemen,” Muhammad added. “They keep a good team. They’re technically sound. They’ve got a strong bond as a team. Also, the coaches are smart and they’re good coaches.”

Where cornerback recruiting is at with Alabama right now

Of course, Muhammad is not the only remaining cornerback option for Alabama in the 2023 class. The Tide are still recruiting multiple uncommitted prospects, with a new name entering the mix recently.

Their highest-rated target at the position is Five-Star Plus+ prospect Cormani McClain. McClain, the No. 1 cornerback in this class, will take an official visit to Alabama next weekend. McClain caught up with BamaInsider recently, saying he’s formed a close bond with Robinson.

“Coach T-Rob, we keep in contact a lot,” McClain said. “He’s telling me different things, different things for DBs. As a man, he pushes me. We’re very close. He’s a great coach. He keeps in contact a lot.”

Alabama is also pursuing Florida Gators cornerback commitment Sharif Denson. The four-star prospect is expected to visit Tuscaloosa next weekend for the Texas A&M game.

Where do things stand with Denson heading into his visit? Also, what is the latest with a new name to Bama’s board who could potentially receive an offer?
