Alabama saw five of its players land on the 2021 Associated Press All-America team, which came out on Monday. Included in that group were three who made the first team, one on the second team and a fifth on the third team.

Quarterback Bryce Young and outside linebacker Will Anderson were both on the first team, which wasn’t surprising. However, that third player was wide receiver Jameson Williams, not offensive tackle Evan Neal.

Instead, Neal was on the second team with safety Jordan Battle rounding things out on the third team.

Young, Anderson and Williams were all worth first-team selections. It could surprise some, however, to see the team’s star left tackle, who will likely be the first Crimson Tide player taken in the 2022 NFL Draft, only make the second team.

In order to be considered a consensus All-American, at least three of the five outlets that select All-Americans must vote a player to their first team. Outside the AP, the other four outlets include the Football Writers Associate of America, Sporting News, American Football Coaches Association and the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

So far, Young and Neal have only been voted to the first team by two outlets.

Anderson, on the other hand, has already reached consensus status after being selected by all three so far. If he gets first-team status by the AFCA and Sporting News, he’ll be considered a unanimous selection.
