Alabama has landed yet another coveted prospect in the Class of 2023. The latest recruit to join forces with the program is Tony Mitchell, a product of Thompson High School in Alabaster (Al.).

His commitment is the seventh of the cycle for the Crimson Tide, and the fifth on the defensive side of the football. On top of getting one of the top blue-chip prospects in the state, Alabama has also moved up in the rankings.

The Crimson Tide now reside at No. 3 in the 2023 On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings. Prior to his decision, Alabama was sitting at No. 7; they leapfrogged Clemson, Texas, USC, and Georgia in the process.

Ahead of Alabama in the rankings are Notre Dame (No. 2) and Ohio State (No. 1). The program’s score of 92.292 is just shy of the Fighting Irish’s score of 92.696.

The On3 Consensus — a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies — has six of Alabama’s seven commits in the top 170 of the 2023 class. Four of them — Mitchell, Eli Holstein, Jahlil Hurley, and Wilkin Formby — are in the top 90.

The additional members of this class are Brayson HubbardElliot Washington, and Yhonzae Pierre.

Alabama will look to improve their standing in the rankings in the coming weeks. Some of their noteworthy targets set to commit soon are Riley Williams (July 1), Peter Woods (July 8), and Raul Aguirre (July 16).
