BOL Video: Alabama lands 5-star safety Jireh Edwards
Welcome back to the BamaOnLine Recruiting Show. Publisher Tim Watts and senior recruiting editor Andrew Bone are here to break down Alabama’s newest commitment in the 2026 class: safety Jireh Edwards.
Hailing from St. Frances Academy (Upper Marlboro, Maryland), Edwards is considered one of the top players in the entire 2026 class, coming in as a 5-star and the No. 19 overall player according to the On3 Industry Rankings. The 6-foot-2 safety is also ranked as the No. 2 player at his position, and the No. 3 player in Maryland.
He’s been one of the Crimson Tide’s top targets throughout the entire recruiting cycle. He took official visits earlier this spring to two rivals — Georgia and Auburn — before taking his OV to Tuscaloosa on June 6. After the job the Alabama staff did on his official, he canceled his remaining visits.

Edwards becomes Alabama’s nineteenth commitment in the 2026 class and the group’s second safety, joining 3-star Rihyael Kelley. He’s also the fifth 5-star prospect to commit to the Crimson Tide, joining wide receiver Cederian Morgan, cornerback Jordan Edmonds, running back Ezavier Crowell and linebacker Xavier Griffin.
Other commitments include 4-star quarterback Jett Thomalla, 4-star cornerback Zyan Gibson, 4-star tight end Mack Sutter, 4-star edge rusher Jamarion Matthews, 4-star defensive linemen Nolan Wilson and Khamariyan Johnson, 4-star offensive linemen Chris Booker and Sam Utu, 4-star running back Javari Barnett, 3-star defensive lineman JJ Finch, 3-star wide receivers Brian Williams and Owen Cabell, and 3-star linebacker Zay Hall.
