The Alabama Crimson Tide’s football program received an early present before the start of the Early Signing Period.

On Tuesday, five-star offensive lineman Kadyn Proctor flipped his commitment from Iowa to Alabama. The No. 2 tackle on the 2023 On3 Consensus had Bama in his top two prior to committing to the Hawkeyes in late June.

“The opportunity to come in and start for a national championship contender definitely raises some attention to me,” Proctor told On3’s Hayes Fawcett of his decision. “I have always had a great time down there, and always kept Alabama in my back pocket. And then I went down there and I felt like it was the place for me to go truly in my heart. There was nothing wrong with Iowa. I just felt like I was settling for the comfortability and I was settling for knowing a lot of people there.

“But this isn’t about the people that I know, it’s about the people that I meet, and the opportunity that I take to go down there and be the best version of myself,” Proctor added. “I have great relationships with the players and staff and I want to work hard to earn what I get.”

This past weekend, however, Proctor took a multi-day unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa, his first time returning to the school since his official visit in June. Offensive line coach Eric Wolford and Company also saw Proctor multiple times in person during the contact period this month.

Along with Wolford being involved, area recruiter Freddie Roach also developed a strong relationship with Proctor.

“I am closest to coach Roach and coach Wolf,” Proctor said. “They coach the trenches and building the relationship with those guys helped my decision be a little easier. They have expressed how much they want me to be apart of their team and how much they would love to get to work with me and grow me as a player and a man. I feel like with them I can be the most successful that I could ever be playing college football.”

Proctor also shared his thoughts on Alabama’s 2023 class, which checks in at No. 1 on the 2023 On3 Consensus Football Team Recruiting Rankings.

“I expect all of us to grow and to learn,” Proctor said. “Hopefully a lot of us get to play and get a feel for the fast paced games we will be playing in. But as far as the loaded class, we have some crazy good athletes and adding that superpower to the greatest coach of all time is dangerous. And I’m ready for it all. Not just ready for it all, we strive to come for it all.”

On3 Scouting Report of new Alabama commit Kadyn Proctor

“Wide, physically-developed offensive tackle who excels as a mauling run blocker,” the report reads. “Dominant at the point of attack, using strong and quick hands to neutralize opposing defensive linemen. Plays with a nasty mentality as a block finisher, planting defensive linemen in the ground with regularity. Moves well and also shows his athleticism as a defensive lineman. Does not appear to have high-end length for an offensive tackle and tends to lunge at times in his pass set.”
