TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — No. 2 Alabama is back inside Bryant-Denny Stadium for a Week 3 matchup against Louisiana-Monroe. The last time these two teams played was back in 2015 when the Crimson Tide won 34-0. The only other time was the dreadful 2007 game where the Warhawks claimed a 21-14 victory during Nick Saban’s first season.

This is an Alabama squad that had steep expectations entering the season. In fact, they were an overwhelming favorite to win another national title after falling short against Georgia back in January. So far, the Crimson Tide are 2-0, but it’s safe to say that they haven’t quite lived up to those steep expectations.

Saturday’s game against Louisiana-Monroe can act as a “get right” week prior to opening up conference play next weekend against the Vanderbilt Commodores. Going in, Alabama is a 49.5-point favorite, according to VegasInsider. As the team learned last week, however, those point spreads aren’t always accurate.

Today’s kickoff is set for 3:01 p.m. CT. The game will air on the SEC Network. There’s still another way to keep up with everything that’s going on. In the space below, BamaInsider will post live updates, scores, news and highlights during the game. Just use the refresh button on your browser to see those updates as they roll in.

Fourth Quarter

END OF GAME: Alabama wins their third game of the season by a score of 63-7. The Crimson Tide finished with 510 total yards. The team had more rushing yards (273) than passing yards (236) today. Bama averaged seven yards per carry on 39 attempts, and completed 13 of their 20 passing attempts. Bryce Young was 13-of-18 for 236 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions, as well as one rushing touchdown. Roydell Williams was the leading ball carrier with 58 rushing yards on just eight attempts and one touchdown. Jahmyr Gibbs (65 yards) led the team in receiving yards for the second straight week. Alabama finished with six penalties for 60 yards, two turnovers, and just 23 minutes, 36 seconds time of possession.

TOUCHDOWN (7:36): Redshirt junior running back Trey Sanders punched it into the endzone for his third career rushing touchdown. Sanders scored from six yards out on a fourth-and-goal attempt for the Crimson Tide. That drive for Alabama started on UL-Monroe’s 49-yard line and took 10 total plays for them to score. Jalen Milroe is the one in at quarterback for Bama.

PUNT RETURN FOR TOUCHDOWN (12:36): The Crimson Tide have notched their third non-offensive touchdown of the game. Taking over punt return duties for Kool-Aid McKinstry, junior defensive back Brian Branch returned it 68 yards for a touchdown to put the Tide up 56-7. Alabama now has 225 punt return yards on seven returns, an average of just over 32 yards per return.

Third Quarter

TOUCHDOWN (4:30): It was all Roydell Williams on Alabama’s fifth offensive touchdown drive of the game. The junior running back had 57 rushing yards on five runs, including a 10-yard TD run to give the Tide a 42-point lead. These were Williams’ only carries of the game, but he now leads Alabama in rushing yards today.

TOUCHDOWN (8:41): Georgia Tech running back transfer Jahmyr Gibbs scores his second receiving touchdown of the season. Gibbs took what was a short pass 37 yards to the house, marking yet another four-play touchdown drive for the Crimson Tide. Gibbs, who led Alabama in receiving last week versus Texas, is once again leading the team in that department with 65 receiving yards today.

INTERCEPTION (12:25): After not throwing an interception this season before today’s game, Young has thrown his second pick of the day. Young threw a pass slightly behind wide receiver Jacorey Brooks, who could not haul it in. The trailing defensive back came up with it, and gives UL-Monroe the ball at their own 30-yardline.

Second Quarter

HALFTIME STATS: Bryce Young completed 10 of 13 passing attempts for 174 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. The team had 51 yards on 10 carries and a touchdown, with 36 of those yards coming from Jahmyr Gibbs. Tight end Cameron Latu led the way with 51 yards on three receptions, while Traeshon Holden had 47 receiving yards on on two catches. The Crimson Tide had 225 total yards in just 8 minutes, 8 seconds of time of possession. UL-Monroe actually had one more first down (10) than Alabama (9) in the first half. On special teams, Kool-Aid McKinstry had two punt returns for 86 yards.

TOUCHDOWN (0:52): The Crimson Tide went over 19 minutes without scoring a touchdown, but got back on the scoreboard with time winding down in the second quarter. Starting on their own 7-yardline with 1 minute, 45 seconds left in the half, Young and Company moved down the field in just six plays. The drive ended with a 15-yard pass from Young to true freshman Amari Niblack. That was Niblack’s first career catch in college.

UL-MONROE TOUCHDOWN (10:11): After Alabama’s turnover on downs, UL-Monroe goes 57 yards down the field in eight plays to score their first points of the game. That drive resulted in a 12-yard run by running back Malik Jackson. The Warhawks took up four minutes, 50 seconds on that touchdown drive.

First Quarter

TURNOVER ON DOWNS (0:00): On fourth-and-three, Alabama snapped the ball with time running out in the first quarter. Young could not connect with Gibbs on a pass, which led to a turnover on downs. There was miscommunication on this play as Gibbs stopped, but Young threw it further out in front as he expected Gibbs to keep going. UL-Monroe takes over from their own 43-yardline.

TOUCHDOWN (4:23): On Alabama’s third possession of the game, the Tide take the ball from UL-Monroe’s 41-yardline to the endzone in just four plays. The drive ended with Young running it from seven yards away. On that drive, Young was 2-of-2 for 29 yards and had a TD run, with Gibbs having 18 yards rushing and receiving.

BLOCKED PUNT RETURN FOR TOUCHDOWN (8:50): The Crimson Tide score their second non-offensive touchdown of the day on a blocked punt that was recovered and returned for a touchdown. Malachi Moore was the one who scooped up the ball and scored for Alabama. That punt was blocked by sophomore wide receiver Ja’Corey Brooks.

INTERCEPTION RETURN FOR TOUCHDOWN (10:52): A throw by UL-Monroe gets deflected up into the air and is intercepted by Will Anderson of Alabama. Anderson takes it 25 yards to the end zone and gives the Tide a 14-0 lead.

INTERCEPTION (11:27): Young underthrows a deep ball that is intended for freshman receiver Isaiah Bond and it is picked off by UL-Monroe. The Warhawks take over at their own 35-yardline. This was Young’s first interception of the season.

TOUCHDOWN (13:12): Alabama took no time on their opening drive as Bryce Young connected with wide receiver Traeshon Holden for a 33-yard touchdown. This drive started with a five-yard penalty, but the Tide marched 80 yards down the field in just four plays. Young was 2-of-2 for 62 yards with a touchdown pass, while running back Jahmyr Gibbs had two carries for 18 yards on the drive.

Pregame…

  • Five-star freshman offensive lineman Tyler Booker is warming up with the second-team offensive line at left guard. Expect him to see some run with the first team at some point today. Super senior Kendall Randolph, who has started each other first two games, was seen once again wearing the No. 85 instead of his normal No. 60. Javion Cohen was working with the first team at left guard.
  • Aaron Anderson was once again going through pregame warmups. That means he could be available against the Warhawks after missing fall camp and the first two games with an injury. We did, however, see him warm up against Utah State in the opener, and then he changed into street clothes prior to kickoff.
