Alabama fans were left wondering about two players, cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis and running back Brian Robinson, during and after the Iron Bowl this past Saturday.

After going through warmups leading up to kickoff, Armour-Davis surprisingly did not take part in the game. In his absence, true freshman Kool-Aid McKinstry got the start opposite Josh Jobe.

On Sunday afternoon, coach Nick Saban provided reporters with an injury update on Armour-Davis.

“He had a little hip injury and wasn’t full speed,” Saban said during a teleconference. “We’ll see how he responds this week and see if he can be able to play in this game, and that’s something that’ll be kind of day-to-day, as well.”

It should be noted that McKinstry played well in the game.

The first-year corner logged his first-career sack on a crucial 3rd-and-5 during the third quarter. He also was credited with a pass breakup during the fourth overtime that helped the Crimson Tide seal a victory.

Granted, Alabama will see a much different offense in Atlanta when they take on top-ranked Georgia in the SEC Championship Game. It would be ideal for Armour-Davis to get back on the practice field this week — but at least there’s known, trusted depth there.

On Sunday, Saban also gave us an injury update on Robinson.

The senior running back saw 19 touches in the game, which he turned into 100 total yards (71 rushing, 29 receiving), but he was unable to continue late after suffering a lower-leg injury.

Now we know Robinson was dealing with a pulled muscle in his lower body.

“He has a lower-body pulled muscle,” Saban said of his star running back. “We’ll kind of see how he progresses during the course of the week and see where he’s at. I can’t tell you any more than that right now. We’ll just kind of see how he progresses through the course of the week.”

If Robinson is unable to go against the Bulldogs, Alabama’s depth at the position will be razor-thin. The Tide started the year with five scholarship runners, four of which were healthy, but have since lost two of them to injury.

Jase McClellan and Roydell Williams have joined freshman Camar Wheaton on the mend. Now Robinson is at risk of missing time, which would leave Alabama with only Trey Sanders as the only true running back.

To combat the lack of depth, the coaching staff has already converted linebacker Demouy Kennedy and wide receiver Christian Leary to running back. Now we might see more moves, such as Slade Bolden, if Robinson is unable to go.
