Tracking Alabama basketball's scholarship numbers after additions, departures
Alabama basketball continues to see a lot of roster turnover from the 2021-22 team that went 19-14 (9-9 SEC) and got knocked out of the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The departures are coming via graduations, early entrants for the upcoming NBA draft and guys choosing to enter the transfer portal.
In total, six of Alabama’s 13 scholarship players have announced a decision to leave the program. Plus, there are two others who are expected to all leave Tuscaloosa early for the draft. If that happens, the Crimson Tide would be left with only five returning players from last year’s squad.
Sure, that’s a lot heading out, but Nate Oats is utilizing high school recruiting and the transfer portal to inject more talent back into the roster. So far, six additions have been made with more on the way. The most recent comes from transfer point guard Mark Sears from Ohio, who announced his intention to join the program a couple of weeks ago.
With all the recent turnover, we thought it’d be easier to keep track of all of it for you.
Below, we break down all the departures, undecided players and additions before giving you the current 2022-23 Alabama basketball roster. We also provided a summary that includes how many scholarships we believe Oats and company will have available to target more players in the transfer portal.
