Auburn Football Recruiting Hot Board: Offense

Jeffrey Leeby: Jeffrey Lee08/07/23JLeeAUSports

Auburn has 15 commitments in its 2024 recruiting class with six projected to play on offense.

There’s still plenty of work to be done before the early signing period begins in December. There’s also plenty of time.

What is left for Auburn on offense in the 2024 class? Who are the top recruits at each position and what are Auburn’s chances with each?

The Hot Board has the answers.

Below are the recruits I believe are the top targets at each position and my guesses at Auburn’s chances of signing them. Keep in mind, the percentages are Auburn’s chances against the field.

Quarterback (1)

Name (star rating)HometownOVPreviousCurrent
Walker White (4)Little Rock, Ark.AUAU

Auburn wanted one quarterback in its class and already has committed its top target at the position. White is the No. 9 QB in the country, per the On3 Industry Ranking, and the No. 2 recruit in Arkansas. He committed to Auburn over Clemson.

Running backs (2)

Name (star rating)HometownOVPreviousCurrent
J’Marion Burnett (4)Andalusia, Ala.AUAU
Duke Watson (4)Forsyth, Ga.40%UL/40%
Kevin Riley (4)Northport, Ala.10%Miami/10%

Auburn has a commitment from Burnett and is looking for one more running back in the class. The most likely option on the board appeared to be Watson, the four-star RB from Georgia who is committed to Louisville. And he still might be, but Watson did not attend Big Cat as previously planned. Auburn doesn’t appear in a rush to add a second back. The Tigers could go all-in on Riley before moving on to someone else.

Wide receivers (4-5)

Name (star rating)HometownOVPreviousCurrent
Bryce Cain (4)Mobile, Ala.AUAU
Perry Thompson (5)Foley, Ala.6/16AUAU
Malcolm Simmons (4)Alexander City, Ala.AUAU
Ny Carr (4)Moultrie, Ga.35%UGA/35%
Mario Craver (4)Pinson, Ala.15%15%
Cam Coleman (5)Phenix City, Ala.6/125%A&M/5%

Auburn has commitments from three wide receivers, but doesn’t appear to be done. The Tigers continue to recruit others, most notably Carr and Coleman. Carr remains committed to in-state Georgia while Coleman is committed to out-of-state A&M. Auburn would like to get both back on campus this fall for official visits and it’s more likely to happen than not.

Tight ends (2)

Name (star rating)HometownOVPreviousCurrent
Martavious Collins (3)Calhoun, Ga.AUAU
Landen Thomas (5)Moultrie, Ga.15%FSU/15%
Amir Jackson (4)Portal, Ga.9/2915%UF/15%
Roger Saleapaga (4)Orem, Utah10%10%

Auburn continues to look for a second tight end to pair with Collins, but it’s been tough as many of the top targets have come off the board/committed to other schools. Auburn continues to heavily recruit Thomas and Jackson and expects to get both back on campus at least once more.

Offensive line (4-5)

Name (star rating)HometownOVPreviousCurrent
DeAndre Carter (4)Santa Ana, Calif.6/1665%65%
Reese Baker (3)Huntsville, Ala.60%60%
TJ Lockhart (3)Winona, Miss.MSUMSU/40%
Jude Foster (3)Baton Rouge, La.OMOM/20%
Navarro Schunke (3)Brandon, S.D.20%

Auburn remains in good shape to get a commitment from Carter and it should/could happen sooner than later. As for Baker, Auburn still is the team to beat, but he doesn’t appear to be in a rush to make a decision. How much longer the Tigers continue to push remains to be seen. Lockhart is committed to Mississippi State, but visited Auburn for Big Cat. The Tigers have offered Foster, who is committed to Ole Miss, and Schunke, a big lineman from South Dakota.
