Late last night we dropped a recruiting nugget on the AuburnLive premium message board “The Corner“. That note was on West Virginia DL transfer Akheem Mesidor. Little did we know, an offer to the big defensive end/EDGE would go out the very next day.

Auburn has now offered Mesidor, and intends to heavily pursue him as versatile 5-technique and possibly contributor at the EDGE position.

The Mesidor File

Mesidor is a native of Ottawa, Ontario in Canada. He played high school football in Clearwater, Florida at Clearwater Academy International High School. He is 6-foot-3 and north of 265-pounds after arriving nearly 40 pounds lighter coming into West Virginia from high school.

Mesidor, who entered the transfer portal Thursday, has picked up some big offers in just about 24 hours. Tennessee and USC have both offered. An offer is probably coming soon from Penn State as he is looking at taking a visit there.

Mesidor was a 2020 Freshman All-American. In 2021 he recorded 38 tackles, 8 TFL’s, and 4.5 sacks. In two seasons for the Mountaineers he had 70 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, and 9.5 sacks.

Mesidor a top target for many

There are still some big schools with a need at the DL position. Being that Mesidor was successful playing at EDGE and strong side end, he will draw more attention while in the portal. Auburn is hoping to have a big jump on the competition. There is a strong need at Auburn as well. As of right now no visit to Auburn is scheduled yet.
