Auburn football has added a commitment from Jyair Shorter, one of the top wide receivers in the transfer portal.

Shorter, who is transferring from North Texas, announced his decision Tuesday on Instagram.

He chose Auburn over Colorado and Mississippi State, among others. Shorter’s commitment to Auburn comes a week after leaving an official visit to the Plains.

“The coaching staff is very genuine, being straight up,” Shorter told Auburn Live’s Cole Pinkston. “The facilities and everywhere, just loving the environment and atmosphere here. I love it, man.”

Relationships big for transfer WR

Shorter also developed relationships with wide receivers coach Marcus Davis and Trovon Reed.

“They’re both two good guys and they won’t lead me in the wrong direction,” he said.

Shorter also likes the opportunity for playing time at Auburn, as well as the message Huge Freeze had for him.

“Really just that they need a guy like me, big body receiver,” Shorter said. “(Freeze) wants me here to come be that guy. We will win a lot of games, just missing a couple of pieces to have a great team and I feel like I can fit that and help this place come win.”

And he’ll gladly do so inside Jordan-Hare Stadium.

“Man, the atmosphere here is crazy,” he said. “The football program is crazy. Being inside that stadium, I could see myself playing on Saturday night in big games.”

In 2022, Shorter had 23 receptions for 628 yards and 11 touchdowns.

Shorter, who is listed at 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, has two years of eligibility.

He is the second transfer wide receiver to commit to Auburn during the spring window. Caleb Burton, a former four-star recruit and Ohio State receiver, committed to the Tigers on May 6.
