Clemson’s baseball program remains perfect in the beginning of their 2022 campaign.

On Friday, the Tigers played host to Hartford for the beginning of a three-game home series. The Hawks were no match for Monte Lee’s group as Clemson came out on top by a score of 6-1.

The Tigers received a solid outing from redshirt sophomore Mack Anglin. The right-handed pitcher pitched five innings, allowing just one hit, giving up three walks, and striking out six batters.

This continues an impressive start for Anglin on the season. Against Indiana last week, he struck out eight batters and allowed no hits in five innings pitched.

Anglin got some help from his bullpen to seal his second win. Behind Casey Tallent, Jay Dill, and Ricky Williams, Clemson allowed one run the rest of the game after Anglin left, marking their second consecutive contest in which they’ve given up just one run.

Caden Grice bolsters Clemson’s offense yet again

On the offensive side of things, Clemson continued to stay hot. This marks the fourth game in five contests that the Tigers have scored five or more runs.

Tyler Corbitt kicked things off with a two-out double in the bottom of the third that scored J.D. Brock. First baseman Caden Grice stepped up to the plate the next at-bat and delivered a two-run home run to put Clemson up 3-0.

That dinger marks Grice’s third home run of the season, which leads the Tigers.

Bryar Hawkins was struggling (.133 batting average) prior to Friday, but came up big for Clemson in the fourth inning. With zero outs, the redshirt junior homered down the left field line on an 0-2 pitch to give the Tigers a four-run lead.

The next inning, Hawkins contributed to Clemson’s scoring efforts again as he drove in Corbitt on a fly-out to right field. The team’s final run of the game came in the sixth inning on a wild pitch by Hartford’s Robert Chaney, which scored Jonathan French.

Up next, the Tigers will have a double-header on Saturday to close out their series against Hartford.
