Clemson basketball set to hire new assistant coach

CLEMSON — Clemson is planning to hire Kareem Richardson as its new men’s basketball assistant coach, a source told ClemsonSports.com on Wednesday.

Pete Thamel of Yahoo! Sports was the first to report the news. Richardson’s hire is expected to become official during a Board of Trustees meeting Thursday morning.

Richardson is currently an assistant at Indiana State and was previously the head coach at the University of Missouri-Kansas City from 2013-19.

In six seasons under Richardson, the Roos went 75-118, with one trip to the postseason in 2017. Before running his own program, Richardson worked under Chris Mack at Xavier from 2011-12 and Rick Pitino at Louisville from 2012-13.

The 46-year-old played his college basketball at East Carolina, before transferring to Evansville. Richardson has been in college coaching since his playing career ended in 1997.

Richardson is replacing Anthony Goins, who left Clemson’s staff this offseason to go to Boston College.
