Clemson freshman wide receiver Adam Randall has suffered a torn ACL and is expected to miss an extended amount of time, Clemson Sports has confirmed.

Randall was injured during Friday’s practice on a screen pass, sources told Clemson Sports.

Randall was eventually able to walk off after going down on Friday, we were told, but further tests showed that he has suffered a torn ACL.

Clemson coach Dabo Swinney confirmed the news in a statement Monday afternoon.

“Adam sustained a knee injury in practice on Friday. He is expected to undergo surgery to repair a torn ACL later this week, after which time I know he will begin attacking his rehab,” Swinney said. “Adam has had a tremendous spring, and we look forward to having him back on the field once he has returned to full health.”

As Swinney said, Randall was having a very good spring and was expected to be a contributor for the Tigers as a freshman in 2022. It is still possible that he will be able to do that, depending on how quickly he can recover from the knee injury.

Tigers coach Dabo Swinney said earlier this spring that Adam Randall is one of four receivers he has ever coached who arrived at Clemson with the strength, knowledge and ability to contribute immediately, joining Sammy Watkins, Justyn Ross and Beaux Collins.

“He’s rare,” Swinney said. “I don’t know about you, I didn’t see many guys at Pelham High School walking the halls looking like that. He’s bigger than Sammy [Watkins]. Sammy was a physical specimen. I mean literally, you could put [Randall] in an NFL locker room anywhere in the country, and you’d never pick him out.”

Randall had an outstanding career at Myrtle Beach High before signing with Clemson in December.

He was named one of five finalists for South Carolina’s Mr. Football Award after catching 65 passes for 1,267 yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior in high school.

Randall was also named to the Under Armour All-America Game and impressed during his time in Orlando.

He was ranked by On3 as the No. 52 overall player in the country in the class of 2022. On3 also listed Randall as the No. 7 wide receiver in the country and the No. 2 player in the state of South Carolina.
