Clemson had a rough year with injuries at wide receiver in 2021. The 2022 season isn’t off to a good start.

Tigers redshirt freshman Troy Stellato will miss this season, Dabo Swinney confirmed Saturday afternoon. Stellato suffered a torn ACL during practice on Friday.

The former four-star recruit was having a nice preseason camp prior to the injury.

“He had had a couple of good days, but just like all these other injuries, unfortunately that’s kind of been his story early since he’s gotten here to this point is he’s been injured,” Swinney said. “He’s not been a guy that’s really been available very much from the day he got here. I thought he finished spring really well. Then he had two good days in a row, taking advantage of his opportunity. … It’s frustrating.”

The good news for Stellato is that he will be able to redshirt again this season and still has four years of eligibility remaining.

Swinney still believes he has a bright future in Clemson’s program.

“He’s got his whole future in front of him and going to be a really good player,” Swinney said.

In addition to Stellato, receivers EJ Williams and Beaux Collins also missed Saturday’s scrimmage.

There is hope that Williams will be back on Monday. There is not a clear timetable for Collins at the moment, but Swinney is hopeful he will be back “soon,” possibly the following Monday after this coming week.

“We’re being cautious with [Beaux]. He just kind of fell on his shoulder and had a pretty good bruise there. So not getting any contact,” Swinney said. “But his range of motion is great. He’s doing well. We’ll probably hold him through next week and hopefully get him back going as we get into those last couple of weeks [of camp].

Offensive lineman John Williams, who missed a portion of Friday’s practice, is fine, according to Swinney.

On the defensive side of the ball, Tigers defensive end Xavier Thomas left Saturday’s scrimmage early with an injury, which appeared to be to the ankle/foot area. He tweeted this later on Saturday.

We will provide updates as we hear more.
