Clemson stays perfect with win over Michigan State

Clemson improved to 12-0 on the season on Wednesday night at Fluor Field in Greenville, picking up a 4-2 win over Michigan State. Tied at 1-1 in the eighth inning, two errors gave the 18th ranked Tigers the room they needed to pick up the win.

A Caden Grice RBI single in the third inning delivered the game’s first run of the day. The Tigers loaded the bases with no outs in the eighth inning, and Max Wagner was hit by a pitch to give Clemson a 2-1 lead. Two batters later, Clemson scored on the second error of the inning, this time off the bat of Jonathan French, to double their lead. Another error in the ninth led to the final run of the day for the Tigers.

Billy Barlow threw six innings, striking out four batters and allowing just two hits. Jackson Lindley picked up the win, however, improving to 3-0 on the season. Clemson returns to Doug Kingsmore Stadium to host Northeastern in a three-game series this weekend, beginning Friday at 4 p.m. on ACC Network Extra.

Wednesday’s win brought Clemson to 13 consecutive wins dating back to last season, which is its longest since the 2006 season.

Clemson freshman to undergo surgery

An important piece of Clemson’s freshman class is set to miss some time.

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney revealed following Wednesday’s practice that freshman cornerback Jeadyn Lukus will have to undergo shoulder surgery. Lukus will have the procedure done when Clemson returns from spring break in late March.

“Jeadyn, we’re going to have to do a little surgery on him. We’ll probably let him almost until spring break so he can get some good work right now foundationally,” Swinney said. “And then we’ll probably clean him up a little bit. He’s got a little shoulder thing we’ll clean up so he’s 100 percent ready to go when we crank it up.”

Virginia Tech stuns Clemson at the buzzer as Tigers fall in OT

Clemson’s winning streak and ACC Tournament run ended in heartbreaking fashion.

Virginia Tech’s Darius Maddox hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer over Tigers guard Al-Amir Dawes to stun Clemson and lift the Hokies to a 76-75 win over the Tigers Wednesday night in the second round of the ACC Tournament.

Maddox’s heroics came after the Tigers battled back from a 14-point deficit to force overtime. But in the end, Clemson came up just short.
