Clemson baseball announces pitching rotation for opening weekend

Clemson coach Monte Lee set the pitching ration of for the first weekend of the season against Indiana on Tuesday during his media availability.

The Tigers will roll out Mack Anglin in the season opener on Friday, with Nick Clayton and Nick Hoffman set to start Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Anglin is righthander who was drafted in the 13th round with the No. 383 overall pick by the Washington Nationals this spring. He was an All-ACC Freshman selection with a 2-6 record and 3.99 ERA in 13 appearances, including eight starts.

A redshirt sophomore, Clayton was one of Clemson’s top relievers the past two seasons but is now looking to be a reliable piece of the starting rotation. Last spring, he closed out the year with a 6-2 record and a 4.30 ERA in 18 appearances.

The Sunday starter, Hoffman was a multi-purpose piece for Clemson last year, playing in a role as a starter and deliver. He finished the year with a 4-1 record, four saves and a 3.83 ERA in in 49.1 innings pitched

Top-40 junior Vic Burley on the Tigers: ‘Clemson is just different’

Over two dozen schools have extended offers to the Warner Robins (Georgia) prospect thus far. Included in that mix are Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and the USC Trojans.

One other program — which some may consider to be Burley’s leader — that is in the mix is Clemson. Burley earned an offer from the Tigers on June 1, visited nine days later, attended their matchup against UConn in November, and was at the program’s junior day event on Jan. 29.

While speaking with On3 National Director of Recruiting Chad Simmons this week, Burley explained what’s drawing him back to Clemson on a regular basis.

Clemson struggles late in loss at Florida State

In what has become a theme for this year’s Clemson team, the Tigers faltered late in a close loss.

Florida State outscored Clemson 5-0 in the final 52 seconds to escape with an 81-80 win over Clemson on Tuesday night in Tallahassee.

Sophomore star PJ Hall scored a career-high 28 points, but it wasn’t enough as Alex Hemenway’s open 3-point attempt fell short at the buzzer.
