Clemson drops series opener to Miami

The No. 15 ranked Tigers dropped the opener of their weekend series with No. 23 Miami on Friday at Doug Kingsmore, an 11-4 loss. The Hurricanes win was powered by eight runs in the first four innings of the game.

Miami starter Carson Palmquist (4-1) earned the win, allowing just three hits, no runs and two walks with a career-high 11 strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched. Clemson starter Mack Anglin (3-1) was dealt the loss in three innings of work, allowing six earned runs.

Clemson was led at the play by second baseman Blake Wright, who went two of three, driving in two RBIs. The Tigers tried to mount a rally, scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth.

The Tigers try to even the series on Saturday with a 3 p.m. first pitch on ACC Network Extra. The loss drops them to 14-3 on the season with an 0-1 mark in ACC play.

2024 four-star K.J. Bolden recaps recent visit to Clemson

Buford (Ga.) athlete K.J. Bolden spent last Saturday at Clemson. Sunday he sports Clemson gloves. The Tigers made an impression on the No. 7 overall prospect in the On3 Consensus rankings for the 2024 class

Bolden didn’t pick up an offer last weekend, but the coaching staff has assured the South Carolina native that Clemson is interested in him long-term.

He talked about that and more recently with Clemson Sports recruiting reporter Jeremy Johnson.

How Clemson RB Phil Mafah is making the most of his extra reps

Clemson has exactly one scholarship running back who is healthy on campus this spring in sophomore Phil Mafah.

Will Shipley and Kobe Pace are sidelined for the spring due to injuries, while signee Keith Adams Jr. won’t be on campus until this summer. That leaves Mafah as option A, B and C for the Tigers.

At most position groups, Clemson is rotating different guys in with the first team this spring to try out different lineups and help them gain experience. But at running back, it’s been all Mafah.
