Former Clemson star Andrew Booth to have surgery

Former Clemson secondary star Andrew Booth has hit another bump in the road in his NFL draft prep. Expected by many to be a first-round pick in next month’s draft, he confirmed to NFL Network last week he will have a core muscle surgery this week. This comes after he sat out the NFL Draft Combine and last week’s Clemson Pro Day.

How this surgery will impact his draft stock is unknown. He did not participate in either Todd McShay’s or Mel Kiper’s second mock drafts, and this came before the announcement of his surgery.

Booth finished this past season with credited with 39 tackles, five pass breakups, a team-high three interceptions and is expected to be one of the top defensive backs taken off the board in April. He was not listed in Mel Kiper Jr.’s latest mock draft released this week, but was listed as the No. 4 overall cornerback in the draft.

During his time at Clemson, he proved time and time again he can be an elite lockdown cornerback. There was the one-handed interception against Virginia, followed a week later by a spectacular pass break up against Miami.

The former five-star prospect was the No. 2 cornerback in the 2019 recruiting class and No. 28 overall recruit in the nation. During his time in college, he ranked No. 65 in On3’s NIL 100.

What Clemson QB DJ Uiagalelei must do to improve his accuracy

There were moments last season when Clemson quarterback DJ Uiagalelei looked like the Heisman candidate everyone expected him to be. Uiagalelei has the arm talent to make any throw, which led to some jaw-dropping highlights in his first year as a full-time starter. Unfortunately for Clemson, there weren’t nearly enough of them as the Tigers went 10-3.

The California native was too inconsistent and inaccurate last year, and he knows it as well as anyone. Sure, there were times when a receiver ran the wrong route or protection forced him to get rid of the ball early. But there were also way too many plays where Uiagalelei simply missed throws.

Offensive coordinator Brandon Streeter recently detailed the plan to improve Uiagalelei’s accuracy and where things stand as Clemson goes through spring practice.

Clemson offense explodes as Tigers pound Miami in series finale

Clemson baseball coach Monte Lee said following Saturday’s loss to Miami that all it would take was one big inning to get the Tigers offense going.

Luckily for Clemson, that inning came in Sunday’s series finale. A day after scoring only one run, Clemson’s bats exploded for 20 runs in a 20-5 beatdown of the Hurricanes.

Clemson finished with 20 hits and had five home runs. The Tigers had only four hits total the previous day — all singles.
