Dabo Swinney hopeful alliance can benefit college football

Dabo Swinney is focused on defeating Georgia in less than 10 days. But that does not mean the Clemson coach is not paying attention to the recent wave of conference realignment.

The ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12 all announced Tuesday the three conferences are partnering together to form an alliance. The outline of the plan is to align on issues of governance, including eligibility, academic reputation and the future of the NCAA.

For Swinney, however, he has no idea what that will mean for Clemson in the coming years.

“I mean, it’s 2021, man,” he said Wednesday on the Packer and Durham Show. “I have no idea. It seems like a great thing. Sounds like 41 teams, that’s a lot of people collaborating together hopefully for the good of college football. That, to me, is a big positive.

“Any time you get a group of people like that, that are communicating and collaborating together on critical factors that impact this game, impact the collegiate experience and so forth. Other than that, it’s just kind of another day in 2021.”

What the alliance will mean for college football in the coming years is unknown. And while Dabo Swinney is focused on the impending college football season at the moment, he is watching what the ACC, Big Ten and Pac-12 alliance can accomplish from a distance.

Trevor Lawrence named Jaguars Week 1 starting quarterback

Trevor Lawrence, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, is officially the Jacksonville Jaguars’ No. 1 quarterback.

Jacksonville head coach Urban Meyer announced Wednesday that the former Clemson quarterback will be the Jaguars Week 1 starter, a conclusion that has long been speculated but not made official by Meyer. Lawrence entered the preseason in a quarterback room with NFL playing experience and had to compete with Gardner Minshew, a former sixth-round selection out of Washington State.

Clemson o-line ready to show Tigers are more physical

Matt Bockhorst is confident Clemson’s offense, and in particular its offensive line, will be more physical this fall.

The offensive lineman is tired of talking about how much more physical the Tigers will be this season. He’s now ready to go show it. In 10 days, the Tigers will have the chance to prove how much they have improved, going up against one of the best programs in the country in Charlotte.

ClemsonSports.com senior writer Matt Connolly broke down how the offensive line could turn around this season.
