Clemson to offer COVID-19 vaccination clinic on game days

Clemson kicks off its home slate Saturday when S.C. State visits town. The coronavirus pandemic will make a couple changes to gameday festivities, but the Tigers are also doing their part to stop the spread of the virus.

The school is partnering with DHEC to offer a free COVID-19 vaccination clinic on football game days. Starting four hours before kickoff at Littlejohn Coliseum, those interested can enter near the TigerTown Tailgate on the southeast corner. The clinic starts Saturday at 1 p.m.

The details for the clinic for the first two games on Sept. 11 and Sept. 18 are as follows:

  • Where: Littlejohn Coliseum, Southeast Corner (Corner of Avenue of Champions and Centennial Blvd.
  • When: Sept. 11, 2021: 1-5 p.m.; Sept. 18, 2021: 11:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
  • Cost: Free

The clinic offers both the Pfizer and Janssen vaccines. For Pfizer shots that require a second dose, fans will be able to attend the clinic at later games, with details to be announced.

Tailgating is making a return this season, and lots open Saturday at 8 a.m. Stadium seating is returning to 100% capacity, too.

Tiger Walk will return to its traditional time and location a little more than two hours before the game. And fans are encouraged to wear face coverings in outdoor areas when not actively eating or drinking.

All tickets are mobile, too. More info can be found here.

Tigers top Gamecocks 2-1

Behind an early goal from Hal Hershfelt and a header goal from Megan Bornkamp, Clemson took home the win against in-state rival South Carolina 2-1 on Thursday night at Historic Riggs Field.

The Tigers (4-2, 0-0 ACC) travel to Boiling Springs, N.C. to play Gardner-Webb in a final non-conference match on Sunday at 6 p.m. Game coverage will be available on ACCNX.

Clemson no longer testing vaccinated student-athletes

Clemson is now following ACC guidelines and is no longer testing vaccinated student-athletes.

Dabo Swinney announced the news following Wednesday’s practice, and a Clemson official confirmed that Clemson’s policy has changed and vaccinated athletes are no longer being tested.

Clemson had been testing vaccinated student-athletes once per week to follow campus guidelines and unvaccinated athletes three times per week to follow ACC guidelines.

Why it’s too early to write off Tigers in CFP race

There’s overreacting to a Week 1 loss … and then there’s whatever the response has been to No. 3 Clemson losing by a touchdown to No. 5 Georgia over the weekend.

ESPN debated on Get Up this week: “Is Clemson’s Season Over?” While a USA Today columnist wrote: “Sorry, Clemson, but no College Football Playoff for you.”

ClemsonSports.com senior writer Matt Connolly broke down why the overreactions are pointless and how the Tigers still have a path to the College Football Playoff.
