Seven signees arrive on campus, begin Clemson careers

With fewer than 75 days until the Tigers kickoff the season in Charlotte against Georgia, the final pieces of the 2021 recruiting class are making their way to campus.

Thursday marked the official move-in date for the summer enrollees who did not enroll early this spring. Seven signees officially moved in and began their college football careers on Thursday. Those players were: Tristan Leigh — an offensive tackle from Fairfax, Virginia; Barrett Carter — a versatile defensive back from Suwanee, Georgia; Troy Stellato — a wide receiver from Fort Lauderdale, Florida; Zaire Patterson — a defensive end from Winston Salem, North Carolina; Dietrick Pennington — an interior offensive lineman from Cordova, Tennessee; Bubba Chandler — a quarterback from Bogart, Georgia and Will Taylor — a quarterback from Irmo, South Carolina.

How long Chandler and Taylor are on campus is up for debate. Both are first-round caliber prospects in next month’s MLB Draft, and both could easily depart the program for the money professional baseball offers. Moving into their dorms and enrolling in classes doesn’t mean they won’t leave to the MLB in the next few weeks.

All seven players will begin working their way into the program, immediately joining summer workouts and immersing themselves in Clemson’s culture. They’re all highly-rated recruits.

Now they’re officially Tigers, ready to start making an impact.

Clemson basketball busy on recruiting trail

The end of the NCAA recruiting dead period also meant men’s basketball was able to start welcoming visitors back to campus.

Brad Brownell and Clemson have been busy on the recruiting trail lately, offering two prospects in the last few days. The Tigers extended an offer to Ven-Allen Lubin on Thursday. A three-star small forward and member of the 2022 class, he is from Orlando (Fla.) Christian Prep and already holds offers from Alabama, Florida, Virginia Tech and Iowa State. At 6-foot-8 and 220-pounds, Lubin has the frame and size to make an early impact.

The Tigers offered Lubin’s Orlando Christian Prep teammate earlier in the week. AJ Brown is a three-star shooting guard in the 2022 class. He holds 14 total offers, including Penn State, Alabama, USF, VCU and Temple. With a 6-foot-4, 170-pound frame, he is the 22nd overall recruit out of the state of Florida.

ICYMI: Tigers seeking approval of updates to Death Valley

Plans were originally made for Memorial Stadium to receive an upgrade prior to the 2021 football season, but those plans were put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

However, those plans are being revisited now, and Clemson Athletics is seeking approval of renovations to Death Valley, including a new videoboard.

Clemson is hoping to begin upgrades following the completion of the 2021 football season, pending approval by the Board of Trustees next month.
