Clemson defensive end checks off major life goal

Xavier Thomas has some lofty goals he wants to achieve this fall.

The Clemson defensive end is looking to bounce back after a disappointing 2020 season. COVID-19 derailed his performance, and now he is looking to contribute at a position that includes five defensive ends with starting experience.

But on Saturday, Thomas checked off a major life achievement: He proposed to his girlfriend. The senior got engaged at Disney World to his girlfriend, Amber Baker.

“Got engaged yesterday in the most magical place ever, then proceeded to park hop all over Disney World,” Baker wrote on Facebook. “I mean the most romantic day in my eyes. I love thrills, I love Disney, I love Zay. So all three together … I’m still on a high.”

With a 6-foot-2, 270-pound frame, Thomas has the potential to be a dominant edge rusher this season. And he will now have a wedding to plan, too.

Former Clemson wideout released by Saskatchewan Roughriders

Former Clemson receiver Charone Peake has been released by the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

With the CFL regular season set to begin this week, Peake was let go in Saskatchewan’s final round of cuts. He had signed with the team back in January. Peake was drafted in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL Draft by the New York Jets. An ankle injury forced him to miss most of the 2017 and 2018 seasons, and he was eventually released by New York. Peake also had a brief stint with the Jacksonville Jaguars last spring.

Peake played at Clemson from 2011-2015. He was a co-captain of the 2015 College Football Playoff team, tallying 50 catches for 716 yards and five touchdowns.

Fred Davis facing ‘internal discipline’ after reckless driving charge

Fred Davis is facing internal discipline from the Clemson football program after being charged with reckless driving.

The Tigers defensive back turned himself in to the Clemson Police Department on Sunday and was booked for reckless driving. The charges come less than two weeks after he crashed into a mail worker on Clemson’s campus.
