CLEMSON — Trevor Lawrence was in elementary school when Tim Tebow was starring at Florida, helping the Gators to a pair of national titles and winning the Heisman trophy.

Now the two are teammates in the NFL for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Jags drafted Lawrence with the top pick in this year’s NFL Draft and signed Tebow this offseason to play tight end. Tebow played quarterback for the Gators in college under current Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer.

Lawrence and Tebow have already shared the practice field together a few times, and Lawrence said earlier this week on The Dan Patrick Show that he is enjoying having Tebow as a teammate.

“He looks good. He’s in great shape. He’s running well. You can tell he’s been training,” Lawrence said. “I think just mentally he’s picking everything up really quickly. It helps him that he played quarterback and has learned a few different systems.”

Trevor Lawrence and Tim Tebow both had incredible careers as college quarterbacks, although Lawrence enters the NFL as a much better pro prospect.

Still, Lawrence said there are things he can learn from Tebow about being a pro and handling the attention that comes with being a star professional athlete. Tebow was drafted by the Broncos in the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft.

His career as a professional athlete — both as an NFL quarterback and minor league baseball player — has been analyzed every step of the way.

“Really he’s been awesome. I didn’t know Tim at all until I met him last week, actually. So I’d never even talked to him,” Lawrence said. “We’ve had a few good conversations. And everything that you hear about him, from what I’ve been able to tell, is true. Great character, just a guy you want to be around, have around your team, because he brings another element. Just a guy that’s been through a lot and has won and done it at a high level.”

Lawrence did acknowledge that it’s been a little “weird” in some aspects having Tebow as a teammate after growing up playing as Tebow in video games.

“This is a guy I grew up watching and playing with on NCAA games and stuff, so it was weird,” Lawrence said. “I was probably 10 or 11 when he was at Florida. So it’s really cool now. It’s just weird being his teammate now. It’s an interesting dynamic.”
