Aleksander Szymczyk, a power forward out of Germany, will be joining the Florida men’s basketball team as the final scholarship player on the roster for the 2022-23 season, Gators Online has confirmed.

Although he is set to join the Gators for the upcoming season, Szymczyk has yet to sign with the team.

The 6-foot-11 power forward previously played for TSV Oberhaching, a third-tier professional basketball club team in the German ProB league.

Golden sticks to his plan to recruit internationally

Szymczyk is the first international player that Florida head coach Todd Golden has recruited and brought to UF in his short tenure thus far.

Recruiting internationally was something Golden said he planned to do when he took the job in Gainesville.

“It’s something that at the University of San Francisco was a really, really good piece for us. And we were able to build relationships all through Europe, Australia, and there’s a lot of talented kids over there. And transparently, not a lot of them have come to the SEC yet. You see them in different leagues across the country, some on the West Coast. I think it’s an area that we can go and attack and bring some really talented kids over here.”

Szymczyk completes Florida’s roster

Szymczyk joins the likes of St. Bonaventure graduate transfer guard Kyle Lofton, Virginia Military Institute transfer guard Trey Bonham, Belmont transfer guard Will Richard, LSU transfer forward Alex Fudge and class of 2022 signees Denzel Aberdeen and Riley Kugel out of Orlando to be the scholarship additions for the 2022-23 roster.

These seven additions join senior guard Myreon Jones, senior forward CJ Felder, junior guard Niels Lane, senior forward Colin Castleton, sophomore guard Kowacie Reeves and senior center Jason Jitoboh.
